Tories Reject "user-friendly" Parking Plan

November 10, 2003 12:00 AM

The way in which parking restrictions in Tunbridge Wells are enforced causes problems for residents and visitors to the Borough of Tunbridge Wells. Local businesses are also suffering.

A study team, led by Liberal Democrat Councillor David Neve, proposed that the Council should introduce extra flexibility into the procedures that the Parking Assistants are required to follow as they enforce the parking restrictions - to make them more "user-friendly". But the Tory-controlled Cabinet rejected the proposals. Residents, visitors and businesses throughout the Borough will continue to suffer from the over-rigid application of the procedures.

Liberal Democrats support effective enforcement - but we believe it can be done in such a way that those affected are satisfied with the system.
