Liberal Democrats would scrap the Council Tax
Councillor Bruce Ballantine, the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Finance, warned Council Taxpayers in Tunbridge Wells Borough that their Council Tax bills were set to rocket in the near future, because the Conservative-controlled Administration will no longer be able to raid the reserves as they have done in the past.
Reserves have been reduced
For the last two years, the Conservative-controlled Council has held the level of Council Tax increases down only by running down reserves - by selling the family silver. But all good things have to come to an end. And the end is likely to come soon. When reserves run out in the near future, Council Tax bills in Tunbridge Wells could DOUBLE in one year.
Council Tax in Tunbridge Wells is set to increase
During the last two years, Council Tax has increased by £0.8 million (equivalent to an increase of 20%) but the Conservatives have taken £2.3 million out of reserves to fund increased spending by the Council (equivalent to an increase of 55% in Council Tax). This cannot continue.
