Park - Alan's Promise to Residents

May 30, 2004 12:01 AM

Liberal Democrat Borough Candidate for Park Ward Dr Alan Bullion pledges to residents he will to work to persuade the Tory-controlled Tunbridge Wells Borough Council:

1. To protect our sub-post offices and post boxes. We have successfully pressed for the restoration of the post boxes for residents on Camden Hill/Prospect Road and Windmill Street/St. Peters Street. The outlet at Safeway's is safe for now. However, the Labour government seems intent on continuing the closure programme for post offices.

2. To implement traffic calming measures in residential areas such as Forest Road and Sibbey's Corner, as well as a pedestrian crossing at the junction of Bayhall Road and Pembury Road.

3. To significantly improve the new waste management scheme, which the Council will roll out next year in Park Ward.

4. To ensure that the Hawkenbury housing scheme is not revived and that similar planning proposals are more closely monitored for their impact on local residents and the surrounding environment. This includes applications for new mobile phone masts.

5. To introduce more dropped kerbs in the Grove Hill Road area for pushchairs, prams and wheelchairs.

6. To support the aims of local businesses to improve trading conditions and attract more tourism in the Town Centre.

7. To provide a more vibrant cultural life for residents of Tunbridge Wells.

8. To significantly enhance design qualities, street furniture and lighting in the Town Centre.
