Ed Prior, "Young people like the Lib Dem policies"

Ed Prior, the Liberal Democrat candidate, won the TWGGS and Skinners mock General Election yesterday. Ed faced a strong challenge but held firm to take 46% of the vote. Fellow students grilled all the candidates at two Question Time sessions in the week of the election. Debate continued until the very last minute with polling all though Thursday.

Ed said, "I won because the Lib Dem policies on Iraq, tuition fees, the environment and our stance on terrorism were vital issues for the students."

Laura Murphy, Lib Dem PPC said, "All of the candidates were excellent but Ed spoke with passion and managed to make the link between our policies and what was important to the students. He showed how the Lib Dems are the effective opposition and could make a difference.

Laura added, "These issues, however, are important to everyone and, coupled with our campaigns for increased pensions, scrapping the unfair Council Tax and the tough stance on crime, means that we are appealing to more and more people in Tunbridge Wells.

It gives residents in Tunbridge Wells a real choice in the General Election, when it comes, and an opportunity for us to become the official opposition."
