Bruce Ballentine, "A well respected man, he will be sorely missed".
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Councillor Bruce Ballantine in the early hours of Friday morning. Bruce, who died at the age of 62 after an extended battle with cancer, was widely loved and respected. He had been a member of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council since 1996 but had campaigned on community issues in his home village of Pembury and further afield for many years before that.
Born in Edinburgh, he led a very active life. He worked for some years in Brussels and retained business connections and friendships there and across Europe until his death.
He was a governor of two Tunbridge Wells schools, an active patron of the
arts (especially music), a keen golfer and a great friend of Pembury and the wider Borough of Tunbridge Wells.
A cultured and civilised man, he will be very sorely missed by the many
people who knew him and valued his contribution to their lives.
He is survived by Barbara, his wife of almost 40 years, one son (Mark) and
one daughter (Alex). Our deepest sympathy is extended to them at this sad time.
