Kent Tories Give With One Hand But Take Away With The Other

Pensioners will lose out due to new bus travel restrictions

It is welcome news that Kent County Council is extending a scheme to give secondary school pupils unlimited travel on buses across the county, albeit for a one-off fee of £50.

However, local Lib Dem campaigner Alan Bullion states "What is most unwelcome though is the announcement that those over 60 will now not be able to use their free bus pass until after 9.30 in the morning.

This is a completely unnecessary restriction and will considerably impede the regular vital journeys made by passengers over 60 who are going to the shops, doctors or dental surgeries, or visiting friends and relatives.

It seems that the Tory-led council gives with one hand to teenagers, but takes away from tax-paying pensioners with the other."
