Labour in Meltdown

David Cameron has called Gordon Brown "a loser"

What a year it has been for Gordon Brown. First there was the 'election that never was', then Northern Rock, the controversy over Capital Gains Tax, the abolition of the 10p tax band and now the teachers' strike.

Labour are plummeting in the polls - recently falling below 30%.

In Tunbridge Wells it is even worse. The Labour party no longer have any Councillors on the Borough Council. Worse than that, they have only four candidates in this Borough Council election in 2008.

However, there is a negative here not just for the Labour Party. As Liberal Democrats we believe that all reasonable and significant minorities locally should have at least some representation in local government. That is why we support Proportional Representation in which every vote counts for something.

Further, in Tunbridge Wells the Conservatives currently hold 41 out of 48 seats (85%) on the Borough Council and we do not think this is healthy for Tunbridge Wells.

However, until Proportional Representation is delivered, we as Liberal Democrats will continue to hold the Conservatives to account locally and fight their unfair policies for the benefit of all Tunbridge Wells residents.

On May 1st, please support the Liberal Democrats - the Real Alternative.
