The Liberal Democrats looked after your money wisely and kept council tax below that of Tunbridge Wells.
This year, after only two years in control, the local Tories raised the Town Council tax by 9% giving Southborough the highest council tax in the borough . A Liberal Democrat amendment to remove funding for a new and unnecessary staff position was defeated by the Tories. This amendment would have kept the increase below inflation and provided more funds for the improvements at the Royal Victoria Hall.
The traffic problems have been particularly bad recently, not least the congestion and semi-permanent road works on the A26, the centre of Southborough and surrounding roads. As well as inconveniencing local residents, traders and shopkeepers have despaired at the loss of trade. Action is needed from KCC to minimise the disruption from these road works.
The new site for the bus stop on the A26 near Bidborough Corner is an improvement but we are still waiting for a pedestrian crossing and flashing speed signs.
